Update on BoA Weekend 13th to 15th Sept

Lots of members, including myself, are also unable to pay using PayPal. I have tried sending payment to The Moulton Bicycle Club, & Moulton Bicycle Club. Both were not recognised. What do we enter when trying to send money to the club ?

Why do members have to pay for their (long-suffering) partners wristbands now?

It might be an idea to give members the sort code for the account too.

Ian, the Club is expected to make a donation to the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust for the use of the Hall grounds. The Trust has to raise enough money annually to keep The Hall and the grounds financially self-sufficient to avoid the estate having to be sold off. A couple of years ago, the National Trust explored the possibility of taking it over, but that fell through. The Club committee discussed how it could raise the necessary donation and getting the money from those who attend the September event in the form of camping fees and attendance fees was seen as the fairest way to go. Yes, the Club could pay the donation, subsidising those who attended the weekend, but that wouldn't be fair on members who did not or could not come to the event. Clive, I've done as you sensibly suggested re. the Sort Code. On the issue of paying by Paypal, this is beyond my understanding as to why it isn't working. I spoke to Simon Jones, our MemSec and he has suggested paying by bank transfer and emailing Mark Taylor martay@globalnet.co.uk with details of the payment sufficient for him to identify it on the Club bank statement. I will check with Pat Doocey, our webmaster, to see if he can come up with a solution to the Paypal thing. Regards, Aynsley

Would have been nice to have been forewarned in changes to the charging structure and the reasoning beforehand. I have decided to remove the video that Mari made, when she was with me a guest, of the group meeting back in 2012 from YouTube. I wouldn't want the club to think they are welcome to benefit from something for nothing, however small.

Ian, the Club DID forewarn about having to make charges, at a BoA Saturday Forum a year or so ago. Arthur Smith did specifically tell attendees that when Alex was alive, we came as his guests. The Club wasn't charged for any site preparations for the toilets or showers or lawn mowing or electricity or water. Since he died, the Trustees have to raise money by whatever means they can to keep the place independent. On page 30, paras 7 to 11, of The Moultoneer Issue 125, Lynn Smith, our Internal Auditor has outlined all the costs for the weekend. The Committee discussed it again at a meeting earlier this year and made the decision we have come to. Please raise the issue at the Forum on Saturday afternoon, if you are unhappy with the charges. It is your prerogative to remove the video. The Club will lose from its not being on YouTube. It seems a shame to deny the public seeing your wife's expertise in making the video. She gave of her time to record and edit it and I'm sure it's been well received by many. It may even have persuaded some to want to join the Club. I hope the Club isn't being mean-minded in trying to balance the books for the event and also helping the Trustees to achieve their survival objectives.
