MemberAm working out way of making up a hard travel case (probably ABS) that will be airline-proof for a TSR 30. Current thinking is heading towards a case which will seperate/ concertina into a pair of (large) panniers to fit on the front. Has anyone tried this before?

ParticipantHave you seen the video on youtube of a TSR packed into a Samsonite case? Might be a ready made solution for you.

MemberDear All
Brand new member here. TSR due to arrive in 3 weeks. Adding to this thread as ‘New Topic’ seems not to work on my iPad.
I too was impressed with TSR packed away into a Samsonite as I intend to travel with mine. I’m looking into custom-made foam inserts for the case so that the bike is held neatly, doesn’t rattle and well-protected – like a sniper’s rifle! If others are interested the foam inserts would be cheaper. How can I best use the forum to seek other interested Moultoneers?

MemberBy the way, does anyone know PRECISELY which model of Samsonite case does the job?

ParticipantHi David
Did you make or have foam inserts to carry you bike securely?

ParticipantHi I am interested in foam packing.
I have put my bike an SST into a suitcase I had. The photos can be seen on instagram under behind bars.
I have seen the video on youtube but he is a little quick
I would be very interested in see photos especially as you get the rear carrier and mudguards in.
One valuable tip I was given is to fix the rear forks with an M8 threaded bar bolted on. Moulton do this when they send bikes abroad.
Any more discussion tips or help ie foam moulded packing most welcome.
I also have a series of photos showing the bike dismantled and fitted in the suitcase stage by stage.
My email is Jamie.leaffoundation@Gmail.comI am off to Italy next month and will take my SST in the suitcase.
Happy cycling
Jamie

John HughesMemberI have a Samsonite Termo Young 85cm case
I have packed either a TSR27 or a TSR30 into it.
There is a bit of a knack to getting everything to fit especially with the TSR27 with it’s bolt on and not quick release wheel due to the extra length.
Not sure if a foam cut out would help. I use dropout “savers” in the forks and rear. An old Karrimat cut into thirds and plenty of pieces of the grey foam pipe lagging round the tubes (this needs replacing regularly). I have also cut a piece of aluminium tube which goes over the separating bolt between the frame for extra support.
This leaves plenty space for 10kg of clothes / folding helmet / cycling shoes if using the 32kg weight limit for flying.
Just a couple of weeks ago I managed to fit my ARCC Innovations converted TSR27 into the above case to travel to Majorca and back. Though this did need more dismantlement than for a normal TSR27.

Newton Dixon JrParticipantHello, I am new Moultoneer and plan to travel with my TSR 22 in Samsonsite Flite hardcase. Do you have to take off derailleur from the bike? How do you protect the crank?
June 4, 2018 at 4:17 pm #6308
John HughesMemberHi Newton
I remove the rear derailleur and wrap it in a cloth and put it in the rear triangle.
Regarding the cranks I have both left them on the bike and removed them. Both work but removing them gives a bit more space for packing. I use self extracting crank bolts so it only adds minimal time when dismantling and rebuilding.

Newton Dixon JrParticipantHello everyone, I have been enjoying my Moulton, but unfortunately she is at the repair shop waiting for new driver for rear hub. In the interim, I felt now is a good time to try and learn and gain some comfort to pack a Moulton TSR 22 inside Samsonsite Flight case. I saw a couple of youtube videos, one from Portapedal and the other from Pathlesspedaled. Does anyone in the club travel regularly with their Moulton? What is time frame to pack and unpack? Any precautions or anything else to look out for? I am waiting to hopefully receive some step by step photos of packing a Moulton. Just want to be prepared before my tours in 2019.
Thanks
NewtonI love any feedback
